External Project Management Accreditations, Courses, Qualifications

Project management is an important competency for organisations of all shapes, sizes and industries; though particularly those that work in consultancy and take on contract-based activities for clients. Therefore, project management models are regularly employed by leaders for managing the running of a project. These come in a variety of forms; however, there are a few that are regularly encountered. Each of these can be accompanied by official training and accreditation for a price. They are:

  1. Prince 2 (Projects in Controlled Environments) – this model is a structured and predominantly software-based approach to project management. It can be applied to a number of different projects across various sectors.

  2. Scrum and Agile – the key defining feature of Scrum and Agile project management is that the project is delivered through short, intense and objective-focused bursts of activity known as sprints. It is most often used for software-based projects.

  3. Project Management Professional (PMP) – more of an accreditation than a model per se, PMP is a designation given by the Project Management Institute (PMI) awarded to project managers that have passed the official examination and can prove they have met the requirements of the course (e.g. evidenced hours of project delivery).
